Trauma-Informed Therapy for Women Who Are Tired of Putting Themselves Last

You’re tired of pleasing everyone but yourself.

Therapy for People-Pleasing & Boundary Work

You read the room, anticipate everyone’s needs, and try to keep the peace. But when you need support, that same care rarely comes back to you. Speaking up can bring guilt—or worry that you’ll be seen as selfish, angry, or difficult.

Therapy offers space to understand these patterns, reconnect with your needs, and practice boundaries that make room for you, too.

You can care about others without always putting them first.

You’re together, but things just don’t feel right.

Individual Therapy for Relational Discernment

You want more than sharing space or getting through your time together. You want connection, mutual care, and conversations that lead somewhere. Instead, you keep revisiting the same conflicts and questioning whether you’re asking for too much.

If you’re wondering whether you should keep trying to make the relationship work, therapy can help you examine what you’re experiencing, build trust in your perceptions, and consider your choices.

You don’t have to fix your relationship alone.

You left, and you still feel pulled back.

Therapy for Breakup Recovery & Relational Grief

You remember why you left—until you miss them. Their explanations and apologies make you reconsider, even as you remember how many times you’ve already forgiven. Or perhaps the relationship ended before you were ready, and you’re grieving the future you thought you were building.

Therapy offers room for the grief, relief, longing, and uncertainty that can follow a breakup. You can sit with what you’re still carrying, noticing the information it provides.

You can move forward from a place of Self-trust.

A Space Where You Don’t Have to Prove You’re Not the Problem

If you are looking for a therapist near Baton Rouge or New Orleans who understands how draining it can be to feel unseen or mislabeled, especially as a Black woman, you are not alone. You deserve a place where you do not have to explain or defend every emotion.

Together, we can welcome your full experience, even when it’s complicated or painful.

Shameka L. Mitchell, Depth-Oriented Psychotherapist for Women in Baton Rouge and New Orleans

This work is not about forcing decisions or quick fixes.

It is about creating enough space for you to be honest with yourself, maybe for the first time in a long time—and staying with whatever that honesty brings.

Over time, many clients notice subtle but meaningful shifts. You may:

  • stop blaming yourself for things that are not yours to carry

  • become clearer about what you want and what you will no longer tolerate

  • experience a deepening of some relationships while others may change or fall away

I’m Shameka, a licensed clinical social worker in Louisiana, Texas, and Washington.

I provide depth-oriented psychotherapy for women recovering from attachment and relational trauma. This is work that I care deeply about.

When I sit with clients who feel worn down by people-pleasing, self-doubt, or relationships that never seem to give back what they put in, I recognize the weight they are carrying. Many clients tell me that I get them even when they struggle to find the words. They feel understood without having to brace for judgment or worry about saying the wrong thing.

I work from a client-centered and strengths-based foundation, bringing warmth, humor, curiosity, and respect for the courage it takes to show up honestly. Again and again I see clients rediscover that they already knew what they needed but had learned to place too much weight on other people’s expectations. Much of this work involves untangling guilt, loyalty, and self-blame—and making room for the grief that often follows.

The goal of this process is not perfection but a return to the center of Self, where your personal sense of trust and integrity lie.

What We Can Do Together

In our work together, you can:

  • slow down enough to hear your Self again

  • explore what happens inside you when you silence your truth to avoid being labeled

  • identify where you feel pressure to keep the peace

  • examine how much emotional energy goes into protecting other people’s comfort

We will also look at:

  • where your relational patterns began

  • how they once protected you

  • how they may now be impacting the relationships you desire to have with Self and others

When You’re Ready to Explore Getting Started

If you are tired of feeling misunderstood or dismissed, therapy can be a place to reconnect with your voice and your values. You do not have to keep existing on other people’s terms.

My areas of focus include people-pleasing and boundary work, attachment and relational injury, emotional disconnection, and relational stress or breakup. If you’re looking for short-term, skills-based support to address these types of concerns, which are often tied to longstanding patterns, my approach may not be the best fit. I’m most helpful when we focus on understanding and processing what’s happening underneath, rather than relying primarily on tools and strategies.

We can begin with a free consultation to explore fit and next steps, or you can schedule a paid Clarity Session if you have a specific question or concern you’d like to explore more deeply.

If you currently need crisis-level support, please call 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.
