Working Together

Individual Therapy Sessions
We are excited to announce that our revised sliding fee scale, based on an anti-oppressive rate structure, is live! Our new scale applies to individual therapy sessions and takes a number of factors into account including clients’ income, financial situations, and individual needs. Our intention is to reduce barriers to accessing therapy by allowing for flexibility in fee determination.
- Bottom of Scale:
- $75 (50-minute session, weekly)
- $112.50 (75-minute session, biweekly to monthly*)
- for clients with significant financial need
- Full Fee:
- $150 (50-minute session, weekly)
- $225 (75-minute session, biweekly to monthly*)
- for clients who can comfortably pay
- Top of Scale:
- $200+ (50-minute session, weekly)
- $300+ (75-minute session, biweekly to monthly*)
- for clients who can comfortably pay more and wish to provide support toward subsidizing lower fees for others
Clients will choose their fee at the end of the free consultation, prior to the issuance of the Good Faith Estimate (GFE). Both clients and The Chrysalis Center, LLC reserve the right to review fees and discuss changes on a periodic basis.
All payments, unless otherwise specified, are due at the time of service. We accept most major credit and HSA cards and require that all clients keep a payment card on file via the secure client portal.
*Monthly sessions available only to existing clients who have completed at least 6 weekly or biweekly sessions and are in a maintenance phase
No Eligibility Requirements
Previously, we partnered with a third party who verified clients’ eligibility for access to our sliding scale. We will no longer verify eligibility and will rely on our clients’ self-assessments. We will provide services at clients’ self-selected fees with the assumption that our clients are acting with integrity.
Here is some guidance to help you decide on a session fee:
Consider paying less on the scale if you...
- are supporting children or other dependents on a single income
- are an elder with limited financial support
- have significant debt or are recovering from bankruptcy or divorce
- have medical expenses not covered by insurance
- Cannot afford basic needs without public assistance
- have immigration-related expenses
- are an unpaid community organizer, a contract worker with no benefits, or self-employed
- are a returning citizen who is rebuilding after incarceration history
Consider paying more on the scale if you...
- own the home you live in or can easily afford your mortgage or rent
- have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money
- travel recreationally
- have access to family money and resources in times of need
- Do not work or work part-time by choice
- have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education, gender or racial privilege, class background/social connections, etc. Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, we ask you to recognize this as a choice.
Sacrifice vs. Hardship
One other idea I noted from colleagues who use a similar fee structure is that of sacrifice versus hardship in terms of access.
If paying for a class, product, or service would be difficult, but not detrimental, it qualifies as a sacrifice. You might have to cut back on spending in other areas of your life (such as eating out, buying premium beauty supplies, or shopping for new outfits), but it would not have a long-term harmful impact on your life. You could consider it a sacred sacrifice in order to prioritize something more meaningful at this time.
If, however, paying for a class, product, or service would lead to a harmful impact on your life (such as not being able to put food on the table, pay rent, or pay for your transportation to and from work), then you are dealing with hardship. Folks in the space of hardship are invited to take advantage of the lower end of our sliding scale.
Our transition to this anti-oppressive rate structure is one way we are choosing to challenge the classist and capitalistic society we live in and to work toward economic justice for both our clients and ourselves as service providers. It invites each of us to take inventory of our financial resources and to look deeper at our levels of privilege.
While we ask you to choose your rate mindfully and intentionally, I know the last thing you need when tending to your mental health is another source of anxiety! So, pay what feels right. Your chosen fee will be kept confidential with the same measures we use to protect any of our clients’ personal information.
We want to acknowledge Ride Free Fearless Money for making information on their own anti-oppressive rate structure, as well as information from Pronoia Coaching, Little Red Bird Botanicals, and Worts and Cunning Apothecary available as resources for setting up our own scale.

Insurance
The Chrysalis Center, LLC is a private-pay practice. This means that I do not accept insurance as a form of payment. While some insurance companies provide reimbursement for out-of-network (OON) benefits, I do not provide Superbills, and there is no guarantee that reimbursement would be approved if you were to seek it on your own behalf.
Know that seeking reimbursement for OON benefits subjects you, your therapy process, and your confidential therapy documentation (e.g., assessments, diagnoses, session notes, etc.) to the requirements of your managed care plan. Learn more about my reasons for working outside of the managed care system here.
